Weekend at Dublin Fashion Festival: Part 2

Better late than never, right?  That's what I always say.  And I'm always late...(unlike today's subject, Diana Vreeland, who was as ahead of the fashion curve, as she was punctual).  Of course, I turned up 45 minutes into the champagne reception for the Dublin Premier of The Eye Has To Travel.  And we all know the rule about being fashionable when you're late, right?  So without further ado, here's what I wore:

Coat, dress, bag, socks: all Penneys/Primark
Shoes: Possibly Korkys?
The polka dot peter pan collar dress is from the children's (Young Dimension) section in Penneys!

Fashion isn't always about the label, it's how you rock it!.

Fabulous, dahling!

But, who is Diana Vreeland?  That's what I wanted to know when I won a pair of tickets to the show (thanks dublintown.ie!).  My pal Gráinne and I, were in for a treat as we sat front row with our champagne and popcorn.  I don't believe I've ever been so instantly and utterly enthralled by a person I had previously known so little about.  Vreeland was the Fashion Editor for both Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.  Throughout the film, we're presented with iconic images from both magazines, which are added to the vast scrapbook of Diana's life.  Her own voice narrates a great deal of her story, along with a supporting cast of friends, who provide us with insightful anecdotes.  And with friends like Andy Warhol, Veruschka and Angelica Huston, you're guaranteed an interesting story or two!  Hundreds of hours of interviews, photographs, visuals and music were sewn together to illustrate this wonderfully informative, touching, witty profile of a woman who was born "the ugly duckling" and deemed an academic failure, yet managed to become the most prolific fashion editor for the most famous fashion magazines in the world.  She saw beauty where others didn't.  She saw creativity in people that didn't even know they had it.  "She would fix her gaze on somebody, and then they would start to blossom".

She was bloody brilliant.

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, in cinemas 21st September.
